Shanxi Institute of Coal Chemistry, Chinese Academy of Sciences

Shanxi Institute of Coal Chemistry, Chinese Academy of Sciences, is a high-tech base-based research institute, mainly engaged in applied basic and high-tech research and development in the three fields of energy environment, advanced materials and green chemical industry.

The predecessor of Chinese Academy of Sciences Shanxi Institute of Coal Chemistry was the Chinese Academy of Sciences Coal Laboratory. It was established in Dalian Chinese Academy of Sciences Petroleum Research Institute (now the Chinese Academy of Sciences Dalian Institute of Chemical Physics) in 1954. In 1961, the coal laboratory was expanded into the Chinese Academy of Sciences Coal Chemistry Research Institute and began to relocate to Taiyuan. In September 1978, it was renamed the Chinese Academy of Sciences Shanxi Coal Chemistry Research Institute and is still in use today.

It has the National Key Laboratory of High Efficiency and Low Carbon Utilization of Coal, the National Engineering Research Center for Indirect Coal Liquefaction, the National Engineering Research Center for Carbon Fiber Preparation Technology, the Shanxi Coal Chemical Technology International R & D Center, and the National Coal-based Synthesis Engineering Technology Research Center jointly established with Lu'an Group. National R & D units; Key Laboratory of Carbon Materials, Chinese Academy of Sciences (Shanxi Province), Shanxi Pulverized Coal Gasification Engineering Research Center, Shanxi Biorefinery Engineering Technology Research Center, Shanxi Graphene Technology Engineering Research Center, Shanxi Province Thermoplastic Composites Engineering Research Center and other institutes, provincial R & D units, and applied catalysis and green chemical laboratory-level R & D units.

By the end of 2022, Shanxi Coal Chemical Institute had a total of 496 employees. Among them, there are 433 scientific and technological personnel, including 78 researchers and senior engineering and technical personnel, and 148 associate researchers and senior engineering and technical personnel.
